Without any question, it was high time to respond to the call of humanity, and not just vacillate over the utmost urgent matter as it was an issue of saving two lives.
And, in this case, Lakshmipur Civil Surgeon Abdul Gaffar has set an example by demonstrating his practice to others while responding to such a critical moment, and not only giving orders to others.
The civil surgeon himself conducted a delivery operation of a woman at a private hospital located in Chandraganj area under Sadar upazila on Friday.
The incident was highly appreciated by locals and netizens.
Roksana Akter, 25, a resident of the upazila, was brought to the hospital for her third delivery after her labour pains started, officials at the civil surgeon's office said.
Roksana, who had undergone two previous caesarean sections, was not in the condition to be referred to another hospital, they said.
However, the hospital authorities could not manage any doctor for the procedure, amid the countrywide shutdown to stem the spread of coronavirus.
The civil surgeon, who used to practise as a gynaecologist in his early career, was informed about the matter on the district hotline and decided to do the operation himself.
Accompanied by colleague Iqbal Mahmud, an anaesthetist, Gaffar went to the hospital and conducted the operation.
The mother gave birth to a boy and both of them are doing well now, they said.
Gaffar said: "We have to work together in this moment of crisis. Perhaps the prevailing situation will not linger, but we have to be careful whether we are carrying out our duties properly or not."
