Fake doc, drugstore owner jailed, fined in Chittagong

Bikiron Impersonated as a diabetes, medicine and child specialist, and 'treated' patients for three years

A mobile court sentenced, a fake healthcare professional and  a drugstore owner, to imprisonment and fines in Bijoy Nagar area of Patenga on Monday night.

The fake doctor, Bikiron Chakma of 'Ayesha Medical Pharmacy', and Faridul Alam, owner of the drugstore, was  sentenced to six and three months of imprisonment respectively, confirmed Executive Magistrate Tahmilur Rahman, who conducted the drive.

Executive Magistrate Tahmilur said Bikiron Impersonated himself as a diabetes, medicine, and child specialist, and 'treated' patients for three years in the area.

"The fake doctor was fined Tk1 lakh, and sentenced to six months of imprisonment for cheating people without any medical degree. Four sacks of substandard medicines were also seized from the store that had no license. The store-owner was jailed and fined Tk50,000," he added.

The convict Bikiron said he obtained an MBBS degree from a medical college in India. However, he could not show any document to support his claim.
