Covid-19: Bangladesh records 237 more deaths, 10,420 new cases in 24 hours

The daily test positivity rate stands at 23.45%

Bangladesh registered 237 deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours to 8am on Wednesday. With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 23,398 in the country.

Dhaka counted 105 deaths, the highest among the eight divisions, followed by Chittagong with 54 fatalities.

Sylhet division reported 23 deaths while Khulna 20, Mymensingh 11, Rajshahi 10, Barisal eight, and Rangpur six.

During the same period, 10,420 people tested positive for the virus, taking the total number of infections to 1,386,742 in the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Dhaka logged 5,163 cases, the highest among the divisions followed by Chittagong with 2,173.

As many as 44,430 samples were tested across the country, with a positivity rate of 23.45%.

On the other hand, another 13,313 patients recovered from the infectious disease across the country, taking the total number of recovery to 1,248,075.

The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.69%.

The health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8, 2020.

The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 4.3 million lives and infected over 204 million people across the world till Wednesday afternoon, according to Worldometer.

As many as 184.078 million people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 220 countries and territories across the planet.
