Daily deaths and new infections on Sunday have increased as Bangladesh continues to fight a deadly second wave of the coronavirus induced by the Delta variant.
The health authorities reported 225 new fatalities in the 24 hours to 8am, taking the total toll to 17,894.
Dhaka counted 60 deaths, the highest among the eight divisions, followed by Khulna with 54 fatalities.
Chittagong division reported 40 deaths while Rajshahi had 20, and Barisal nine. Mymensingh, Rangpur, and Sylhet divisions counted 14 deaths each.
During the same period, 11,578 people tested positive for the virus taking the total number of infections to 1,103,989 in the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Dhaka logged 4,858 cases, the highest among the divisions followed by Chittagong with 1,863 cases, Khulna with 1,345, and Rajshahi with 1,041.
On the other hand, another 8,536 patients recovered from the infectious disease across the country, taking the total number of recovery to 932,008.
As many as 39,806 samples were tested across the country, with a positivity rate of 28.09%. The overall infection rate stands at 15.22%.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.62%.
Vaccination
In the 24 hours till Sunday morning, 670 people received a second dose of Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine, taking the total to nearly 4.297 million. Meanwhile, a little over 1.523 million people received the first dose of the vaccine and are awaiting the second dose.
Additionally, 131,797 people received the first dose of Sinopharm vaccine during the same period, taking the total to 783,346 till now, while 2,297 people received the second dose till Sunday

Meanwhile, 2,331 people were administered with the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, taking the total to 49,312.
Also, 47,888 people received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine taking the total number to 160,459.
The health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8, 2020.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 4.1 million lives and infected over 190 million people across the world till Sunday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 173.936 million people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 220 countries and territories across the planet.
