Bangladesh has registered another 14 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning, bringing the tally to 7,833.
The latest single-day body count is the lowest since November 13, when 19 deaths were recorded in a 24-hour period. On November 12, the number of daily fatalities was 13.
The country also logged a total of 524,910 coronavirus cases, with 890 people testing positive over the same period.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country through a press release on Wednesday.
Of the 14 deceased – six men and eight women – 10 were from Dhaka division; two from Chittagong, and one each from Khulna and Sylhet divisions.
Of the victims, 13 died at different hospitals and one at home.
So far, 5,943 men (75.87%) and 1,890 women (24.13%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Since the beginning of the Covid outbreak, 4,336 people have died in Dhaka division, 1,436 in Chittagong, 449 in Rajshahi, 541 in Khulna, 239 in Barisal, 299 in Sylhet, 350 in Rangpur, and 183 in Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.49%.
The health authorities said 841 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 469,522 patients – 89.45% – have made full recovery all over the country.
As many as 15,727 samples, including pending ones, were tested in the 199 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 5.66%. The overall infection rate of the country stands at 15.43%.
Currently, 11,196 people are in isolation and 37,475 are quarantined.
On March 8, the health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
Global situation
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,972,382 lives and infected 92,096,847 people around the world till Wednesday afternoon, according to Worldometers.
As many as 65,947,919 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 220 countries and territories across the planet.
The US has recorded the most cases since the start of the pandemic with 23,369,732 followed by India with 10,495,816 and Brazil with 8,195,637.
Meanwhile, as many as 389,621 people died from Covid-19 so far in the US.
Brazil has the world's second-highest Covid-19 death toll, after the US, and the third-largest outbreak, after the US and India.
Brazil reported 204,726 deaths from Covid-19 while death toll in India reached 151,564.
