The number of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Chittagong crossed the 20,000-mark on Saturday.
According to the information provided by the Chittagong Civil Surgeon office, a total of 118, 628 samples have been tested with 20,055 people testing positive for Covid-19 so far.
Of the infected, 14571 people hail from metropolitan areas while the remaining 5484 people are from different upazilas of Chittagong.
The total positivity rate so far stands at 16.90 percent. As of October 17, 15,721 people have recovered from the deadly viral disease.
Of them, 3,199 people recovered while undergoing treatment at different hospitals, while 12,522 people have recovered in home isolation. The total recovery rate so far stands at 78.38 percent.
As of October 17, a total of 301 people have succumbed to the deadly viral disease with the total mortality rate so far standing at 1.50 percent.
Warning of a possible second wave of the novel coronavirus in the country, Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that the people should abide by all health regulations and social distancing.
On April 3, Chittagong recorded the first case of Covid-19.
