'If we cannot reform and change the country, it will never become a developed nation,' says Mahmudur Rahman Manna

Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that in six months, there has been no change in people's lives.

On Wednesday, he made these comments at a citizen rally in front of the National Press Club, organized by the "Save the Country, Save the People Movement," protesting the death of a Jubo Dal leader in joint forces’ custody.

Manna said: "Such a great man, who has won the Nobel Peace Prize, who has achieved extraordinary success in economics, and who has been recognized worldwide for establishing dreams in people's lives, has not been able to bring peace to the people of Bangladesh.

"This government has wasted six months, but it could have progressed much further."

Manna said that through movements and sacrifices, the slogan was raised—"We want a new Bangladesh."

Manna added: "What does a new Bangladesh mean? It means changing everything outdated, anti-people, hateful, painful, and representative of our deprivation. It means creating a country like the poetry of Shamsur Rahman, like a garden of flowers, where people can live in peace, breathe freely, and where we no longer have to lose lives in the Mediterranean Sea while searching for jobs."

He questioned whether we are creating such a country and whether we are heading in that direction.

He emphasized that if we cannot reform and change the country, it will never become a developed nation.

Manna further said: "Six months have passed, but has there been any change? Has the administration been reformed? Is work being done without bribes? None of these issues have been resolved yet."

He clarified that he does not expect everything to change in six months but insisted that at least the path to change should be visible.
