Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s Nagorik Oikya has withdrawn from the BNP-led alliance following the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD).
The party has also announced it will contest 11 seats independently.
The decision was made public on Wednesday.
Earlier, JSD had declared it would run independently due to disagreements over seat-sharing. Now, after negotiations over seat allocation with BNP also failed, Manna’s party has decided to go solo.
The split emerged after the sheaf of paddy symbol was allotted to BNP leader Shah Alam for the Bogra-2 constituency, and the nomination was not withdrawn at the last moment.
Despite repeated attempts by Manna to resolve with top BNP leaders, no agreement was reached.
On Monday, he held an urgent press conference, announcing that his party would contest the election independently.
At the press conference, it was revealed that party president Manna will contest the Dhaka-18 and Bogra-2 seats.
The party also announced candidates for 10 additional constituencies.
