Noting the country is riddled with 3.4 million pending cases, Law Minister Anisul Huq said on Thursday that his ministry has initiated the forming of a District Case Coordination Committee to expedite the disposal of cases across the country, reports UNB.
"We are riddled with a pile of pending cases. We've long been inheriting these. Currently, we have a total of 34 lakh (3.4 million) cases pending across the country. We are taking initiative to form a District Case Coordination Committee, led by a district judge," he said
The committee would give support in providing witnesses and investigation reports in the shortest possible time, said the minister attending a conference of deputy commissioners (DCs) at the Secretariat.
Such coordination committees would also be comprised of district judges, DCs, and superintendents of Police, said the minister.
"We will inform how to dispose drug related cases quickly with the existing Narcotics Control Act. We are also thinking of changing the law for quick disposal of drug related cases," he said.
Meanwhile, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, who also attended the DC conference, said: "Within the next 6-7 years the process of Digital Land Management will be completed. After that land related complications will be easily resolved."
In replying to a query about establishing political offices on government land, the minister said: "Political offices on government landwill be removed. The DCs have been given directives in this regard."
The three-day annual DC conference began on July 24 at Shapla Hall in thePrime Minister's Office.
There were at least 18 working sessions in this year's conference, and ministers, advisers, state ministers, deputy ministers, and the senior secretaries of 52 ministries and divisions participated in the conference.
