184 more Bangladeshis return home from India

74 from Kolkata, 110 from Chennai

As many as 184 Bangladeshis, stranded in India due to travel restrictions amidst the coronavirus pandemic, have returned to Bangladesh on two separate chartered flights.

A special Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight with 74 passengers from the Indian city of Kolkata, landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4:00pm on Friday.

Tahera Khandaker, deputy general manager (public relations) of the airline, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Another batch of 110 Bangladeshis also returned home from Chennai, India, on a special US-Bangla Airlines flight, landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 2:35pm on Friday.

Kamrul Islam, general manager (public relations) of US-Bangla Airlines, confirmed the matter.

Of the 110 returnees from Chennai, two are minors.

All of them brought the required valid medical certificates from India stating that they had tested negative for Covid-19, Kamrul said.

On May 14, the ban on all domestic and international flights in Bangladesh was extended till May 30, in line with the extension of the nationwide general holidays.
