Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain has expressed his dissatisfaction with the low turnout of voters in the Dhaka city polls.
He said that he is not satisfied at all with the nominal presence of voters.
Dr Kamal expressed his disappointment after casting his vote at the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College centre in Bailey Road around 10:25am.
"Only 100 votes, out of 2,600, were cast within two and a half hours. This means, either people do not have the confidence to cast votes or they are not being able to cast their votes properly," he said.
The renowned jurist also alleged that it took him a long time to cast his vote.
The assistant presiding officer helped him to cast his vote as Kamal's fingerprint was not being matched.
When asked about BNP's allegations that the party’s agents had been forced out of polling centres, he said: "We also heard the allegations."
The voting for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections began at 8am, using only the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all polling centres.
This is the first ever that an EVM-only city polls is being held in Bangladesh. The voting will continue until 4pm without any break.
