To curb polythene use, a nationwide operation against manufacturers will begin on Sunday by mobile courts, said Tapan Kumar Biswas, additional secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
He made the announcement during a raid at the Mohammadpur Krishi Market on Friday (November 1) morning.
The raid was to stop the use of banned polythene shopping bags.
During the raid, the general public visiting the market was requested to use jute and cloth bags instead of polythene. At the same time, shopkeepers were instructed to stop using polythene bags.
