Update : 22 Apr 2024, 09:34 PM

Amid the ongoing heatwave disrupting daily life, Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) is taking steps to provide water at key points across Dhaka.

This update was shared in a press release signed by AM Mostafa Tarek, deputy chief public information officer of Dhaka Wasa, on Monday.

The release mentioned: "Customers of Dhaka Wasa are alerted to the health risks posed by the intense heatwave prevailing in Bangladesh. Considering the situation, Dhaka Wasa has initiated efforts to distribute drinking water at major locations in Dhaka city. Dhaka Wasa is prepared to provide water services to meet the needs of its customers. This service will be available from 11am to 5pm at strategic points in the capital."

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has extended the "heat alert" or heatwave warning for an additional three days due to the ongoing heatwave affecting various parts of the country. A new warning was issued by the Meteorological Department Monday morning.

The warning said: "The heatwave across the country may persist from April 22 for the next 72 hours, until the morning of April 25. During this period, discomfort may increase due to high humidity levels."

Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman arranged fresh water for the relief of common pedestrians in Dhaka in this intense heat.

With his initiative, drinking water is being distributed from 10am on Monday through DMP's 16,000 litre capacity water tanker.

DMP will distribute water daily in Motijheel Shapla Chatwar, Paltan, Gulistan Mazar, in front of Old High Court Building, DU TSC, Neelkhet Mor, Elephant Road, Bata Signal, Farmgate Bus Stand, and lastly at Kawran Bazar.

DMP media wing ADC KN Roy Niyati told the Dhaka Tribune: "As long as the intense heat wave continues, this operation will continue."
