The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued traffic directives, urging city residents to use alternative routes and avoid certain areas in Dhaka on Wednesday, July Mass Uprising Day, to ease congestion during programmes marking the July uprising.
According to a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, traffic movement around Suhrawardy Udyan, Shahbagh, Khejur Bagan and areas adjacent to Manik Mia Avenue will remain restricted from 5am on Wednesday until further notice.
U-turns and diversions will also be enforced at several points.
Mirpur Road to Farmgate via Manik Mia Avenue: Vehicles coming from the north on Mirpur Road and heading towards Farmgate or Sonargaon will turn left at Ganabhaban Crossing, take Lake Road, then turn right at the Urojahaj Crossing and Bijoy Sarani Crossing before proceeding towards Farmgate.
Farmgate to Manik Mia Avenue via Indira Road: Vehicles from Farmgate will turn right at Khejur Bagan Crossing, proceed via Urojahaj Crossing, turn left onto Lake Road and head towards Ganabhaban Crossing.
Farmgate to Shahbagh: Vehicles will turn left at Hotel InterContinental Crossing and use Hare Road and Minto Road.
Sayedabad to Shahbagh: Vehicles may travel via Mirpur Road, New Market Crossing, Azimpur Crossing, Chankharpool Crossing and Bakshibazar Crossing. Alternatively, vehicles may use Bata Crossing and Katabon Crossing, then turn towards Hatipool, Palashi and Nilkhet crossings.
Golap Shah Mazar Crossing to Shahbagh: Passenger vehicles will use the Kakrail Mosque Crossing via the High Court and Matsya Bhaban crossings.
Dhanmondi to Farmgate: Vehicles coming from Dhanmondi 27 will make a U-turn at Asad Gate-Ganabhaban Crossing, then use Lake Road, Urojahaj Crossing and Bijoy Sarani Crossing before proceeding towards Farmgate.
Asad Gate to Farmgate: Vehicles will turn left from Asad Gate, turn right at Ganabhaban Crossing and use Lake Road, Urojahaj Crossing and Bijoy Sarani Crossing to reach Farmgate.
Elevated Expressway/Indira Road to Dhanmondi: Vehicles will turn right at Khejur Bagan Crossing, proceed via Urojahaj Crossing, turn left onto Lake Road and then continue through Asad Gate towards Dhanmondi.
Mirpur Road to Dhanmondi 27: As barricades on Manik Mia Avenue will be removed, southbound vehicles from Mirpur Road will travel via Shyamoli, Shishu Mela, Ganabhaban and Asad Gate before proceeding directly towards Dhanmondi 27.
For the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, DMP has specifically requested motorists to use the FDC (Hatirjheel) ramp instead of the Farmgate exit ramp during the programs to avoid traffic congestion and inconvenience.
