A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 18 plots of land in Comilla, along with two Toyota vehicles owned by former railway minister Md Mujibul Haque, in a corruption case.

The court also ordered the freezing of six bank accounts held in his name.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order on Thursday following an application by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Papon Kumar Saha.

According to the ACC, Mujibul Haque allegedly abused his power while serving as a public servant, including as railway minister and lawmaker, and, in collusion with others, acquired and possessed Tk7.39 crore in assets beyond his known sources of income through dishonest means.

The ACC filed the case against him under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

During the investigation, scrutiny of records found that attempts were being made to transfer or dispose of movable and immovable assets owned by or linked to the accused, the ACC said in its application.

The commission said transferring or disposing of the assets before the case is resolved could cause significant financial loss, prompting it to seek the court’s order to secure the properties.
