The 15th Asian Conference on Diarrhoeal Disease and Nutrition (ASCODD) started in Dhaka.
Chief guest, Minister for Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) Zahid Maleque, inaugurated the conference at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The speakers discussed various topics including immune response, diagnosis, vaccines, and prevention and preparedness to combat enteric diseases.
The conference is being organized by the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) supported by the Government of Bangladesh, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other local and international sponsors.
Ashadul Islam, secretary of Health Services Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and chief guest at the dissemination event, said: “The conference not only provides inspirational and energizing opportunities to connect the greater scientific community, but also offers new strategies to address different health challenges.”
Expressing his hope that the 15th ASCODD hosted by Bangladesh will facilitate more important discussions, he said: “the conference will help achieve global goals to control some of the major public health challenges and achieving sustainable development goals.
Dr Firdausi Qadri, senior scientist of icddr,b and also the president of ASCODD said: “We look forward to a conference that always provides Bangladesh impactful discussions and insights, and occasional controversies and debates.”
The conference has brought together more than 450 researchers, health care professionals, policymakers and program officials from 18 countries to discuss new research, and to find ways to put into action, research findings to fight public health challenges.
