Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has submitted a memorandum to the Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman demanding the Ducsu polls be postponed by at least three months.

The four-point memorandum was submitted on Thursday morning by Chhatra Dal representatives.

They, in their memorandum, claimed that it is necessary to delay the polls to ensure a free, fair, and acceptable Ducsu election; held for the first time in 29 years.

According to them, the student body, different student wings, and candidates are yet to have a pro-election environment to freely exercise their rights.

VC Md Akhtaruzzaman said: “JDC leaders pressed their demand through a memorandum, but I told them that Ducsu election will be held according to its constitution and electoral code of conduct, and the rules are equal for all.”

After placing their demand, the JCD activists brought out a rally on the university campus from the VC's office and continued through the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) after about nine years.

The other three demands include: transferring voting centers from student halls to academic buildings of the university; eliminating the age cap for candidates to participate in the polls, both as a candidate and a voter; and ensuring a level playing and harassment-free election environment for all the student organizations; so that they can campaign worry-free and the student body can vote for their desired candidate without external pressure.

Meanwhile, Progotishil Chhatra Jote also organized a protest rally demanding the transfer of voting centers from student halls to academic buildings of the university, to create a congenial atmosphere on the campus.
