The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sought video footage aired by Ekattor TV, along with related documents, as part of its ongoing investigation into the events that took place at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel on May 5 and 6, 2013.

The information was disclosed in a letter signed by Mohammad Shahidullah Chowdhury, coordinator of the ICT investigation agency. The letter, issued on June 8, was made public on Wednesday.

According to the letter, investigators are collecting evidence and relevant information as part of the inquiry being conducted under ICT BD Miscellaneous Case No 15 of 2025.

The letter states that Investigating Officer Md Iftekharul Alam is probing the events surrounding the program called by Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel on May 5-6, 2013. The investigation is being conducted under Section 3(2) of the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973, following allegations of crimes against humanity.

As part of the investigation, the agency requested Ekattor TV authorities to provide a copy of the channel's government-issued broadcasting license, video footage related to the incident that was aired by the station, and any other relevant documents.

The investigation agency said it expects the full cooperation of the media outlet in what it described as a matter of national importance.

The Shapla Chattar incident has long been the subject of demands from various quarters for a judicial inquiry and accountability. In recent months, related complaints and investigative proceedings before the ICT have gained renewed momentum.

As part of the probe, investigators have been collecting video footage broadcast by media organizations, photographs, and other documentary evidence linked to the events.
