Three members of a Bangladeshi family were found murdered inside their apartment in Rome, the capital of Italy, while the family's eldest son survived the attack and is receiving treatment in hospital.

The victims were identified as Kamal Uddin, 39, his wife Arzu, 38, and their six-year-old daughter Alicia. Their 18-year-old son, Ayon, was seriously injured and admitted to Policlinico Gemelli Hospital. Authorities said he sustained multiple injuries but is not in life-threatening condition.

The killings took place in an apartment on Via Montilio in Rome’s Casalotti area, within the Aurelio district.

The homicide unit of Rome Police Headquarters' Mobile Squad is leading the investigation. Detectives have reportedly uncovered several clues and are searching for a Bangladeshi national believed to have close ties with the victims.

Investigators are interviewing relatives, friends and neighbours, while also reviewing CCTV footage and examining the victims' mobile phones. They believe the attacker may have been known to the family and was likely allowed into the apartment voluntarily.

Forensic experts recovered a bloody handprint from a wall inside the apartment, which is being treated as a key piece of evidence.

Police and the Carabinieri (a branch of the Italian armed forces responsible for military, law enforcement, and civil duties) are searching for a Bangladeshi man described by investigators as a family friend and fellow national of the victims. Authorities suspect he fled the scene after allegedly killing the three victims with a machete.

According to investigators, the suspect works at a local supermarket. Ayon, the surviving son, is also employed by the same supermarket chain.

The motive behind the killings remains unclear. However, investigators have not ruled out the possibility of a financial dispute. The investigation is continuing under the supervision of the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office.
