Private University Youth Association held a rally and blocked the road adjacent to the Norda Bus Stand area on Wednesday, demanding the formation of a judicial probe committee to investigate three recent murders.
Among the victims were two private university students: Tajbir Hossain Shihan of East West University and Wazed Shimanto of American International University of Bangladesh.
Both were killed on December 14 and were engaged in the Mass Uprising of 2024, which led to the toppling of Sheikh Hasina's 15-year regime. Additionally, on December 17, the body of an unidentified young woman was discovered in Badda Lake.
During the rally, students called on the government to compensate the families of the deceased and ensure the safety of private university students, especially those involved in the 2024 mass uprising.
The speakers addressing the rally said that the students of private universities transformed the quota movement initiated by Dhaka University students into a successful mass uprising.
They further emphasized that private university students were the backbone of the July Revolution and that attacks on them were tantamount to an attack on the revolution itself.
Urging vigilance against conspiracies by "collaborators of fascist forces," the speakers called on private university students to stay prepared to defend the July Revolution.
Students from various private universities, including North South University, Independent University, East West University, American International University of Bangladesh, United International University, and Dhaka International University, participated in the rally. Leaders from different social, political, and anti-discrimination platforms were also present.
Ashraful Islam Zayed, spokesman for the Private University Youth Association, presided over the rally, while Sibghatullah, Central Literary Secretary of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, addressed the event as the chief guest.
