Three people, including a mother and her one-and-a-half-year-old son, were killed in two separate incidents in Manikganj within a single night, sparking concern across the district.
The incidents occurred in Manikganj Sadar and Daulatpur upazilas on Saturday night.
In the first incident, Md Sajib Hossain, 30, was allegedly hacked to death over a longstanding dispute in North Putail village under Putail Union of Sadar upazila, reports Bangla Tribune.
According to local sources, Sajib was staying at the house of Lutfor Rahman in the Krishnanagar area late Saturday night. At around 1:30am, a group of more than 100 people from the Baliyabil and Krishnanagar areas reportedly stormed the house armed with sharp weapons following a previous conflict. The attackers allegedly hacked Sajib to death before fleeing the scene.
Police arrived at the scene after receiving a call through the national emergency service hotline, 999.
Manikganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ekram Hossain said Sajib was the son of local resident Munser Ali. He added that Sajib had several criminal cases filed against him, including charges related to robbery and narcotics.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Manikganj Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved, police said.
In a separate incident a few hours earlier, housewife Amena Begum and her one-and-a-half-year-old son, Aswad, were killed in the Fakirpara area of Bachamara Union under Daulatpur upazila, allegedly following a family dispute.
According to police and local residents, the mother and child were attacked with sharp weapons and killed at around 10:00pm on Saturday after a domestic altercation. Investigators recovered a machete and a hammer from the scene.
Amena’s husband, Salam Molla, a local businessman, was also attacked while returning home after closing his shop. He was initially admitted to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex with serious injuries and was later transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment after his condition worsened.
Daulatpur Police Station OC Swapan Kumar Sarkar said the bodies of the mother and child had been recovered and the case was being investigated with the highest priority. A drive is underway to apprehend those responsible.
