Police Headquarters on Saturday placed all police units across the country on the highest level of alert following intelligence reports of possible sabotage targeting police vehicles.
In a directive issued to field-level units, Police Headquarters said intelligence indicated that members of extremist groups or other miscreants could target police jeeps, pickup vans, buses and other official vehicles.
The directive stressed that there must be no complacency or negligence in ensuring the security of police vehicles and instructed officers to maintain maximum vigilance both during operations and after vehicles are parked.
It said any police vehicle making a temporary stop while on duty must be parked only in a secure location and remain under constant supervision. Vehicles must not be left unattended unless the driver or the designated responsible officer is present.
The directive also ordered enhanced security for government vehicles kept at police stations, police lines, office compounds and other designated locations after duty hours.
It further instructed all units to conduct regular patrols, strengthen surveillance and remain alert to any suspicious persons or objects around parked vehicles.
Describing the matter as "highly important," Police Headquarters directed all metropolitan, range, district and other field-level police units to strictly implement the security measures.
