Superintendent of police (TR) AFM Nizam Uddin has been temporarily suspended from government service after his urine sample tested positive for benzodiazepines and amphetamine/methamphetamine.
An order to this effect was issued on Monday through a notification signed by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manzur Morshed Chowdhury. The notification was signed on September 10.
According to the notification, Nizam Uddin is currently attached to the office of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rangpur Range. He left Police Headquarters on January 8 to attend the DSCSC-2026 course at Mirpur Cantonment.
During the course, he fell ill on June 7 and was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. On the advice of specialist doctors, he underwent a drug test as part of his medical examinations.
His urine sample tested positive for benzodiazepines (BZO) and amphetamine/methamphetamine.
The notification said the test results were contrary to the discipline required for the DSCSC course. Under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, such conduct constitutes misconduct and is punishable under the rules.
In view of this, Nizam Uddin was temporarily suspended from government service with effect from August 31 under the relevant provisions of the rules.
During the suspension, he will be entitled to a subsistence allowance in accordance with government rules. The order, issued in the public interest, took effect immediately.
