The High Court has summoned Senior Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani for allegedly undermining and disrespecting the chief justice and the judiciary in a state security directive.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi issued the order on Thursday, ordering Nasimul to appear in person on March 18.
Lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir was present at the hearing.
At the same time, the High Court suspended the enforcement of the aforementioned state security directive, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on March 2, for three months.
Earlier, on March 2, lawyer Shishir Manir brought the directive to the court’s attention, arguing that it undermined all judges, including the chief justice.
He informed the court that the directive placed the chief justice below the home secretary and Range DIGs in terms of status, whereas, according to the state’s official hierarchy, the chief justice holds a significantly higher position.
During the proceedings, the court remarked that crucial decisions of the state were made by the Supreme Court, yet the directive had disrespected the institution.
