13 high court judges assigned to monitor subordinate courts

Chief justice reconstitutes monitoring committees to strengthen oversight of lower judiciary nationwide

The chief justice of Supreme Court of Bangladesh has reconstituted monitoring committees for subordinate courts across the country’s eight divisions, assigning 13 High Court judges to oversee judicial activities at the district level.

According to a notification published on Saturday on the Supreme Court’s website, separate “Monitoring Committees for Subordinate Courts” have been formed for different regions. Each committee will be headed by a High Court judge assigned for specific districts under the respective divisions.

In addition, 13 judicial officers have been assigned to provide secretarial and administrative support to the committees.

As per the notification, Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain will oversee Barisal Division, while Justice Md Habibul Gani has been assigned Rajshahi-2 Division, comprising Bogra, Joypurhat, Pabna and Sirajganj. Justice JBM Hassan will monitor Dhaka-1 Division, including Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi and Tangail.

Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia has been given charge of Khulna-1 Division, covering Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jessore and Narail, while Justice Md Zafar Ahmed will supervise Khulna-2 Division, including Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah and Magura.

Justice Razik Al Jalil will oversee Mymensingh Division, comprising Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrokona. Justice Fatema Najib has been assigned Dhaka-2 Division, covering Kishoreganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, Gopalganj, Shariatpur and Madaripur.

In Chittagong-1 Division, including Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari, the responsibility has been given to Justice SM Kuddus Zaman. Justice Shashanka Shekhar Sarkar will monitor Rangpur-1 Division, comprising Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram and Lalmonirhat.

Justice Ahmed Sohel has been assigned Chittagong-2 Division, covering Noakhali, Feni, Lakshmipur, Comilla, Brahmanbaria and Chandpur. Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir will oversee Rajshahi-1 Division, including Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon and Natore.

Justice KM Hafizul Alam will monitor Rangpur-2 Division, comprising Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh and Nilphamari, while Justice Md Atabullah has been assigned Sylhet Division, including Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar and Habiganj.

Earlier, eight judges were assigned to monitor the divisions on January 27, 2022. The number was later increased to 13 in October 2023. The committees were restructured again in April 2025 as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen judicial oversight at the subordinate court level.
