The government on Thursday appointed a new chairman and three commissioners to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for a four-year term.
According to separate notifications issued by the Financial Institutions Division (FID) under the Ministry of Finance, Masud Khan has been appointed as the new chairman of the capital market regulator.
The government also appointed Nahid Mahtab, Tanvir Habib Rahman and Md Nafiz Al Tarik as commissioners of the BSEC.
The appointments were made under Section 5(2) of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Act, 1993, the notifications said.
Under the appointments, the chairman and commissioners will serve for four years from the dates of their respective joining.
The notifications stipulated that the appointees must sever all professional affiliations and positions with other institutions and organizations before assuming office.
The notifications, signed by Deputy Secretary Farhana Jahan, said the appointments have been made in the public interest and will take immediate effect.
The appointments come as the government moves to strengthen the regulatory framework of the country's capital market and enhance investor confidence through effective oversight and governance.
