A lawyer representing the state has filed a petition seeking cancellation of the bail order granted to eminent photographer Shahidul Alam by the High Court.

Lawyer Sufia Khatun filed the petition with the Supreme Court on Sunday.

She said: "The hearing for the petition is scheduled to be held this afternoon."

On November 15, the High Court granted bail to Shahidul Alam – in a case filed under Information and Communication Technology Act – for spreading “propaganda through social media” during a student movement demanding safer roads in August.

Previously, on October 7, the High Court issued a ruling asking the authorities concerned why Shahidul Alam should not be granted bail.

Later, there was a High Court hearing for the ruling about his bail. During the hearing, the live video footage of Shahidul's interview with Al Jazeera was shown in court.

On November 1, the High Court dismissed Shahidul Alam's bail application from the court's cause list.

The founder of Drik Gallery gave an interview to an international media outlet, Al Jazeera,  about clashes during the student movement demanding road safety.

Police arrested him in a case lodged with Ramna police station under the ICT Act. He has remained in jail since then.
