Update : 15 Feb 2025, 08:38 PM

Dr. Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, said on Saturday said after reviewing the reports of the reform commissions, separate meetings will soon be held with each political party.

"We aim to meet with the parties as soon as possible. The National Consensus Committee's term is six months, and we intend to reach a unanimous decision within this timeframe."

He made these comments following the National Consensus Commission's meeting at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

Dr Riaz added: "During today’s (Saturday's) meeting, all political parties agreed that national unity is essential in the current situation. They have committed to supporting and directly participating in the reform process. We believe it is the responsibility of every political party to push forward the reform initiatives."

Emphasizing the urgency of concluding the dialogue, he said: "We aim to wrap up discussions with political parties as quickly as possible. However, since the reports from six commissions have been sent to them, they will need some time for review."

He also said: "The reform agenda needs to progress swiftly, and national consensus must be established so we can move towards elections as quickly as possible."

In response to a question about whether the dialogue could be completed within the six-month timeframe set for the reform commissions, Dr Riaz said: "We hope to complete it within six months. However, political parties will need time to review the reports. The reality is that we want to begin the dialogue and review process as soon as possible."
