Almost one third of babies in the United Kingdom were given birth by non-UK-born women and Bangladeshis are in the sixth place among the top ten in the two lists of non-Uk-born mothers and fathers of newborns.

Bangladeshi women gave brith to 7,007 newborns in 2022.

India is in the top position in the list while Pakistan in second and Afghanistan in seventh position.

According to the latest figures from Office for National Statistics (ONS), a total of 183,309 babies were born to non-UK-born mothers in Britain.

In 2022, India replaced Romania as the most common country of birth for non-UK-born mothers, and Pakistan as the most common country of birth for non-UK-born fathers.

There were 17,745 live births to Indian women; a 16.3% increase from 15,260 in 2021. Pakistan was the most common country of birth for non-UK-born fathers.

In England and Wales, 30.3% of births belonged to non-UK-born mothers in 2022; an increase from 28.8% in 2021, continuing the long-term trend of the percentage of live births to non-UK-born mothers generally increasing, the data showed.

Afghanistan was the seventh most common country for non-UK-born women, appearing in the Top 10 for the first time since reporting began in 2003.

The number of births to mothers born outside Britain was 179,726 in 2021, according to new data from the ONS. In 2022, it increased to 183,309 people.

In contrast, the number of births to UK-born women in England and Wales fell from 445,555 in 2021 to 422,109 in 2022.

Statistics show that two-thirds of newborns (66.5%) born in London last year had one or both parents born outside the UK.

Commenting on this matter, Lokman Uddin, a senior figure of the Bangladeshi community in Britain, said on Sunday that the main reason why Bangladeshis are ahead in the list of marriages and children is social and religious values.

Earlier, a study showed that the Bangladeshi community has the highest marriage rate in Britain.
