Update : 17 Jun 2023, 09:13 PM

Jamalpur correspondent for Banglanews24.com Golam Rabbani Nadim who had been critically injured in an attack in the Pathati area of Bakshiganj upazila of the district on Wednesday night, died on Thursday from excessive blood loss caused by a serious head injury, a doctor has said.

After being attacked and injured by miscreants, Nadim was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital at around 11am and died at about 2:30pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment, said Dr Md Zakiul Islam, deputy director of the hospital.

A total of four individuals suspected to be connected to the attack have been taken into custody so far, although their names have not been disclosed.

Nadim was also a local correspondent for Ekattor Television.

Nadim's family and locals claimed that Nadeem was attacked by Shadurpara union parishad Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu's followers for writing news reports against the chairman for the last two weeks.

Nadeem's colleagues said some miscreants attacked Nadim in the Pathati area on his way back home after work on Wednesday. They left Nadeem unconscious and ran away.

At that time, the locals rushed him to Bakshiganj Upazila Health Complex.

Later at 12pm, he was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital for better treatment.

When his condition deteriorated, Nadim was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Thursday morning.

Nadim's wife Monira Begum said that Shadurpara union parishad Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu's men attacked Nadeem and seriously injured him. She demanded exemplary punishment for this incident.

Earlier, Nadim's son Abdullah Al Mamun Rifat said his father died because of Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu. “I want justice for my father.”

Mahmudul Alam Babu, however, refuted the allegations, maintaining that he held no grudges against Nadim and had no role in the attack.

This was not the first act of violence carried out against Nadim – he was targeted previously on April 11 over his news coverage.
