The 22nd National Council of the ruling Awami League will be held on December 24.
This decision was taken at the Awami League central committee meeting chaired by the party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader confirmed the matter on Friday.
The present committee's tenure will expire in December.
The meeting of the party's executive committee started at Ganabhaban, the official residence of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at 4pm.
Obaidul Quader said that this year's council will end in one day at Suhrawardy Udyan. Usually the council lasts for two days, but this time it will end in one day.
Highlighting the program schedule, he said that the council will be started with the opening session in the morning. Sheikh Hasina will preside over the council.
A council meeting will be held at noon and the council will end with a cultural program in the evening, said Quader.
Due to the current global crisis, the formalities of the council will be held in one day to cut costs.
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's speech in the meeting also indicated such a hint.
Pointing out that expenses should be reduced in the formalities of the council, the Prime Minister said, "Program will be simple to reduce expenses."
Sheikh Hasina, the head of the party, has also ordered the formation of a council preparation committee.
Earlier, the last council of the party was held on December 20-21, 2019.
