The health risks of people living in urban areas are increasing day by day as the number of floating people and slum dwellers are increasing in urban areas including the Sylhet, speakers said during an event on Monday.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Strengthening Urban Public Health System (SUPHS) project by Save the Children Bangladesh organized a workshop on pre-budget and guide for allocation of resources in agreed public health activities of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC).
The speakers called for adequate measures to prevent such health risks.
Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury was the chief guest while Jahidul Islam, chief health officer of SCC, presided over the meeting at the SCC conference hall.
Dr Umama Binte Saleh, PHE-SCC, SUPHS Project, SCI, presented the keynote paper.
SCC CEO (Additional Secretary) Bidhayak Roy Chowdhury, SCC Secretary Fahima Yasmin, Chief Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman, Safety Net Bangladesh Co-ordinator Dr Sharmi Saha were present among others.
Earlier, another workshop titled ‘Crisis Communication and Behavior Change Communication’ was held in the same venue where Zannatul Ferdous, technical specialist, Public Health Communication, Save the Children, presented the keynote papers.
