Four more children die with measles symptoms in Sylhet

Currently, 295 suspected measles patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the division

The death toll from measles and measles-like symptoms among children continues to rise in the Sylhet division. In the last 24 hours, four more children died while undergoing treatment at hospitals with symptoms of measles. With the latest deaths, the total number of fatalities linked to measles and measles-like symptoms in the division has reached 51.

At present, 295 patients with suspected measles symptoms are receiving treatment at various government and private hospitals across the division.

The information was disclosed in the bulletin published by the Office of the Divisional Director of Health in Sylhet on Saturday.

The four children who died in the last 24 hours were identified as: Abid, 10-month-old son of Sabul Mia from Fenchuganj upazila, Arabi Ahmad, 15-month-old son of Rafiqul Islam from Shahporan Police Station in Sylhet Sadar upazila, Nafi Islam, 5-month-old son of Faruk Mia from Sreemangal in Moulvibazar and Niloy Roy, 6-month-old son of Nipesh Roy from Dirai upazila in Sunamganj.

During the 24-hour period, 43 new patients were admitted to hospitals. Among them, 14 patients each were admitted to Sylhet Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmad Hospital and Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, while 15 patients were admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Currently, 295 suspected measles patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the division. Of them, 89 are admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmad Hospital and 58 are being treated at Osmani Medical College Hospital.
