Three more children died with measles-like symptoms in Sylhet in the last 24 hours, raising the number of deaths linked to measles and measles-like symptoms in Sylhet Division to 40, according to a press release issued by the Divisional Health Director’s Office on Tuesday morning.
Among them, six-month-old Ishita Kaher from Sreemangal upazila in Moulvibazar died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. In addition, nine-month-old Sumita from Moulvibazar Sadar and nine-month-old Labiba from Sylhet Sadar died at Shaheed Dr Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital in Sylhet city.
According to the Health Department report, 92 new suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals over the past 24 hours. Currently, a total of 281 patients are undergoing treatment at various government and private hospitals across Sylhet Division. Of them, 70 are being treated at Shaheed Dr Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital and 77 at Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Of the 40 reported deaths, four were confirmed measles cases, while 36 were classified as suspected measles-related deaths.
