Update : 17 Oct 2022, 12:06 AM

The authorities have suspended two officials of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) over the national grid failure on October 4.

The suspended officials were PGCB's System Protection and Metering Division Sub-Divisional Engineer ((SPMD, Dhaka-1) Allama Hasan Bakhtiar and Assistant Engineer (SPMD, Dhaka-1) Md Mostafizur Rahman, a press release of PGCB said on Sunday evening.

State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the PGCB’s probe report on the power grid failure was due to be submitted on Sunday.

The decision was taken to suspend the power distribution company officials for the negligence of their duty that led to the nationwide grid failure, the state minister said.

Earlier in the day, ABM Badruddoza Khan, public relations manager of PGCB, said that the process of suspending the two engineers as per the instructions of the state minister was underway.

Regarding the submission of the investigation report, he said the written probe report was yet to be submitted. “We are hoping it will be submitted soon.”

On October 4 afternoon, there was a near-complete nationwide blackout when the national grid failed. The power supply was restored after around seven hours.
