On this day in 1971, the activities of Swadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangram Parishad gained momentum as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced new programs along with 35 directives.

Bangabandhu said: “Bangladeshi citizens' fight cannot go to waste. We're indomitable because we're ready to die.”

The non-cooperation movement which started from the beginning of March entered its second phase on this day.

Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin announced to boycott the title “Helal Imtiaz” given by the Pakistani government, as part of solidarity with the ongoing movement.

On the topic of joining a discussion with Pakistan President Yahya Khan, Bangabandhu set some conditions.

"If the president wants to sit and talk about his desire to meet the demands, then I can sit with him. However, no third party can be present during the meeting,” he said during a press briefing.

On the other hand, at a rally of the People's Party of Pakistan at Nishtar Park of Karachi, ZA Bhutto said that the power would be handed over to the major parties of Pakistan, saying that the country had two wings, the People’s Party for West Pakistan and the Awami League for East Pakistan.

Bhutto also urged Bangabandhu to sit for dialogue.

On the same day, National Awami Party leader Abdul Wali Khan and Bangabandhu had a meeting at the latter's residence in presence of Awami League's leaders.

After the meeting, Bangabandhu said that it would be a fight for the independence of Bangladesh and the Bangladeshis.

Meanwhile, at a rally in Barisal, National League chief Ataur Rahman Khan called for the formation of a temporary government under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Civil servants of the Department of Defence staged a demonstration in the city in protest against military directives number 115, which stated that every official of defence was bound to resume office to avoid a court martial.

Later, they went to Bangabandhu's Dhanmondi residence and declared their solidarity with the movement.

Swadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangram Parishad set up check posts at various points in Dhaka to prevent the smuggling of resources from the country.
