Thirty lower court judges and four Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) doctors have been directed to stay in home quarantine as a measure to stem the spread of Covid-19.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry Public Relations Officer Dr Reazul Karim said on February 29, the judges departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to attend a training session in Australia, returning to Bangladesh on March 15.
Four doctors too of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) have been home quarantined from Wednesday.
DMCH Principal Prof Dr Khan Abul Kalam Azad said: "Two doctors from the nephrology department and two from the medicine department have been asked to stay in home quarantine.
“None of them are infected. However, they provided treatment to 10 patients of whom four tested positive for coronavirus,” he said.
Bangladesh recorded its first death from coronavirus infection on Wednesday.
IEDCR Director Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora said that four new cases of Covid-19 had been confirmed, raising the total number of confirmed coronavirus patients in Bangladesh to 14. Of the patients, three were earlier released upon full recovery.
Covid-19, a new strain of coronavirus, has killed over 8,200 people across the world after first being reported in China’s Wuhan city at the end of December last year.
According to Worldometer, the virus—which was characterized as a pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO)—has infected over 208,000 people across the world.
Around 82,902 people have also recovered.
