In a press release, Rahnuma Ahmed, wife of photographer Shahidul Alam, demanded emergency medical care for Shahidul after visiting him in jail.
Rahnuma, and Shahidul's coworker, journalist SaydiaGulrukh, visited him at the Keraniganj jail on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha on Wednesday.
Shahidul was sent to jail by a Dhaka court on August 12, after a seven-day remand that followed after he was taken from his home by the Detective Branch of Police (DB) on August 5.
According to Rahnuma, during their visit, Shahidul complained of asthma, jaw, and gum aches. He also said he was having problems with his eyesight.
Before being detained by the police Shahidul had not exhibited any of these symptoms, Rahnuma said.
