A case has been filed in court against Abdus Salam, the president of Japan Garden City Housing in the Ring Road area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, along with five others, for the poisoning and killing of 10 dogs and a cat.

On Sunday, architect Rakibul Haque Amil filed the case on behalf of four animal welfare organizations in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mostafizur Rahman.

The judge recorded the plaintiff's statement and instructed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter.

Lawyer Zakir Hossain confirmed the filing of the case.

The other accused include Shahanur, the secretary of Japan Garden City, vice-president Yahia, and three other members.

Speaking about the case, plaintiff Rakibul Haque Amil said: "The dogs were poisoned. There is no doubt that a crime has been committed. Since a veterinary officer has conducted a post-mortem examination, forensic analysis, and autopsy of the dead animals, we want a proper investigation through PBI to uncover the real perpetrators."

Lawyer Zakir Hossain added: "The case was filed today regarding the killing of 10 dogs and a cat in Japan Garden City Housing on November 22 of last year. The court has accepted the case and directed PBI to conduct an investigation. We hope that through proper justice for this animal killing, such incidents can be prevented in the future."
