Kazi Nazrul Islam's 126th birthday to be observed

This year, the theme of the celebration of the birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam has been set as "Mass Uprising '24: Kazi Nazrul's Legacy".

A 3-day program is being organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy  to commemorate the 126th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at the national level from May 25. This year, the theme of the celebration of the birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam has been set as "Mass Uprising '24: Kazi Nazrul's Legacy".

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the Advisor to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, will be present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony at the Comilla District Shilpakala Academy on May 25, 2025 at 3 pm. Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Md Mofidur Rahman will preside. The special guest speakers will be Md Latiful Islam Shibli, Executive Director of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Institute, and Kibiputri and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Institute, Khilkhil Kazi. Professor Salimullah Khan will deliver a commemorative speech and Md. Amirul Kaysar, Deputy Commissioner of Comilla District, will deliver a welcome speech. The awards will be presented to the distinguished personalities nominated for the ‘Nazrul Award 2023 and 2024’ at the event, and the awardees will express their feelings.

After the discussion, a cultural program titled ‘Chetna o Jagorane Nazrul’, a special contribution of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, will begin. At the beginning of the program, the ensemble songs ‘Joy Hok’ and ‘Moner Rong Legeche’ will be performed by the vocalists of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and the ensemble dance ‘Chol Chol Chol Chal’ will be performed by the dancers of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The two songs ‘Khelicho e bissho loye’ and ‘Priyo emon raat jeno jayna britha’ will be performed by renowned Nazrul Sangeet artist Ferdous Ara. Dancers of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will perform the ensemble dance ‘Mora Jhonjhar Moto Uddam’. The ensemble songs ‘Jago Nari Jago’, ‘Rumjhum Rumjhum’ and ‘Dur Dipo Basini’ will be performed by Ghash Foring Choir under the musical direction of Armin Musa. Finally, the Rebel Band will perform the three songs ‘Porodeshi Megh’, ‘Bagichay Bulbuli Tui’ and ‘Tora Shob Joyodhwoni Kor’.

On Monday, May 26, 2025, at 6:30 PM, a program titled 'Chetna o Jagorane Nazrul' will be held at the National Theatre Auditorium on the occasion of the 126th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, organized by the Music, Dance and Recitation Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The program will be presided over by Mohammad Wares Hossain, Secretary and Acting Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Mehzabeen Rahman, Director of the Music, Dance and Recitation Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, will deliver the welcome speech.

At the beginning of the cultural segment, the ensemble songs 'Dao Shaurya Dao Dhariya' and 'Joy Hok' will be performed by the vocalists and young vocalists of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Then the ensemble dance 'Chol Chol Chol' will be performed by the dancers of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The song ‘Tri vuboner prio Muhammad ' will be performed by Shahinur Abedin. The ensemble song Aji Rokto Nishi Bhore ' will be performed by vocalists and young vocalists of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Then, renowned Nazrul Sangeet singer Fatema Tuz Zohra will perform Nazrul Sangeet.

Dance organization Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts will perform the ensemble dance 'Nadir Nam Soi Anjana' and vocalists and young vocalists of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will perform the ensemble song 'Rumjhum Rumjhum'. The solo song ‘amar aponar cheye ' will be performed by Sushmita Debnath Suhi and the song ‘Modhukor Monjuri Baje ' will be performed by renowned Nazrul Sangeet singer Md. Salauddin Ahmed. The young dancers will perform the ensemble dance ‘Shukno Patar Nupur Paye'. The solo song ‘Khelicho a Biswa loye' will be performed by Namrata Rani Bashkod. Renowned Nazrul Sangeet artist Md. Salauddin Ahmed will once again perform the solo song ‘Shaon Asil Phire’ and the song ‘Nobo kisholoy-ranga shojja patiya’ will be performed by Barnali Sarkar. Then, vocalists and new vocalists of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will perform the ensemble song ‘Moner Rang Legechhe’. The ensemble dance ‘Tora Shob Joyodhwoni Kor’ will be performed by the dance organization Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts and the ensemble dance ‘Mora Jhanjar Moto Uddam’ will be performed by the dancers of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Finally, the play ‘Setubandha’ will be performed, performed by the Flute Repertory Theater.

The programs will be open to all.
