David O Russell’s latest film “Amesterdam” released new footage at CinemaCon on April 27, 2022. This marks the director’s return to filmmaking after a seven-year hiatus.
Russell is best known for directing critically acclaimed features “Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle” and “Joy.”
Produced by Regency and distributed by Disney-owned 20th Century Studios, the film will open in theatres on November 4, 2022.
The star-studded cast features Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert De Niro, Christian Bale, John David Washington, Rami Malek, and Zoe Saldana.
Taylor Swift also plays a small role in the film, which was included in the trailer. and her character was briefly seen tearing up in highlights played from the movie.
Disney’s head of theatrical Tony Chambers said at CinemaCon, “[writer-director Russell] brought together an all-star cast in ‘Amsterdam,’ which is an original romantic crime epic about three close friends who find themselves at the center of one of the most shocking secret plans in American history.”
Set in the 1930s, the film follows three unsuspecting friends who witness a murder and become key suspects in the police investigation.
Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Shannon, Chris Rock, Andrea Riseborough, Rami Malek, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Alessandro Nivola also star in the film.
Theis is the third time Russel is collaborating with Bale, after having worked with him in “The Fighter” and “American Hustle.”
Russell bagged five Oscar nominations over the course of his illustrious career, including two for Best Director for “American Hustle” and Best Original Screenplay; Best Director for “Silver Linings Playbook” and Best Adapted Screenplay; and Best Director for “The Fighter.”
