Greta Gerwig's new ‘Barbie’ trailer leaves fans curious

There are numerous Barbies and Kens, so it was originally believed that we might travel through the Barbie multiverse, though the plot is still largely a mystery

Life in plastic may be as wonderful as it seems from the brand-new trailer for Greta Gerwig's Barbie, but we won't know for sure until a few months from now. The second trailer expands on the first, which set the bar high with its impressive cast, and gives viewers a clearer idea of what to anticipate when the movie, which stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ken, opens in theaters on July 21.

The new trailer teases some of the dynamics between the Barbies and Kens, including the rivalry between Ryan Gosling's and Simu Liu's Kens, as they all welcome each other for a lovely day at the beach. Sadly, the hit pop tune "Barbie Girl" by Aqua wasn't included in the trailer. Although it had already been made clear that the music wouldn't be in the film, there's always hope in situations like this. The Beach Boys' "Fun, Fun, Fun," which exudes the same saccharine pop vigor, is included though. According to what we currently know about the film, Gerwig will have a huge success on her hands.

Even though the movie's plot has largely remained a secret up until this point, anticipation for the project is only increasing as the release date approaches. This is undoubtedly a result of the film's stellar cast, which includes some of the finest and most well-known actors currently active in Hollywood. If anything, July 21 feels like a day for sheer star power because the same-day release of Christoper Nolan's Oppenheimer features an equally astounding number of A-list talent.

In addition to Robbie, Gosling, and Liu, the film stars Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, America Ferrera, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Emerald Fennell, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Sharon Rooney, Anna Cruz Kanye, Ritu Arya, Conor Swindell, Jamie Demetriou, Marisa Abela, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Simu Liu, and Ncuti Gatwa. The first trailer's narration was provided by legendary actress Helen Mirren, but it is currently unknown if she will feature in the finished product. The addition of Dua Lipa, Ncuti Gatwa, Nicola Coughlan, and John Cena to the cast was also hinted at in the new teaser.

There are numerous Barbies and Kens, so it was originally believed that we might travel through the Barbie multiverse, though the plot is still largely a mystery. With a simple chorus of "Hi Barbie!" and "Hi Ken!" all within the same world, the new trailer, however, hilariously disproves that hypothesis.
