In March, Kamar Ahmad Simon’s ‘Anyadin…’ (Day after…) will premiere as the very first Bnagla film at the First Look Festival in the Museum of Moving Image (MOMI), New York. Kamar Ahmad Simon’s film made it to a segment where the films have been regarded as the 'Artistic Masterpieces'.
As mentioned in MOMI’s website, "For several years now, the most consistently adventurous, unpredictable, intelligent, and dynamic films have been works of nonfiction. These are days of artistic masterpieces, crises de coeur, impeccably crafted yarns, and purposefully irreconcilable experiments all working within the deceptively nondescript “documentary” catchall.”
MOMI's First Look Festival is a non-competitive festival, screening only 18 feature films. The opening film of the festival is the Camera d’Or winner of the 2021 edition of Cannes FIlm Festival, ‘Murina’. And the closing film is ‘The Balcony Movie’, the Grand Prix winner of the Locarno Film Festival.
In addition, 'Petrov's Flu' was in the race for Cannes Palm d'Or at the Cannes in 2021 and was awarded for cinematography. 'Babi Yar Context’ won the special award and 'Feathers' won the Critics Week Grapheri. Among them, Kamar Ahmad Simon's 'Anyadin…' is the first and only selected Bangla film, Kamar Ahmad Simon's 'Anyadin…'.
Last November, ‘Anaydin…’ had its world premiere in Pathé Tuschinski in Amsterdam, the most beautiful theatre of the world as part of the international competition of IDFA, one of the leading festivals of the world.
‘Anyadin…’ was exclusively invited by Cinefondation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017. Awarded as the Best Project at the Locarno Open Doors, Kamar was the first Bangladeshi director to be featured as the red carpet director of Piazza Grenda in Locarno and was also awarded the ARTE International Prix in 2016.
