A man identified by police as Hridoy alias Bullet has drawn attention in Chittagong’s Raozan after a video showing him displaying eight foreign-made pistols on social media went viral.
A 21-second video, shared from a Facebook account named “Mamun Chairman Supporters Group” on Tuesday night, shows eight pistols lined up on a table as a man issues threats.
Police have preliminarily identified the man as Hridoy, son of Badsha, from Garibullah Para in Bagoan Union.
In the video, the man is heard threatening people in Noapara, saying he had paid for the weapons as “tickets to death”. He also warns them to stop extortion, adding that he would make their situation “very bad”. While speaking, he gestures towards the pistols on the table.
The video has triggered widespread discussion and criticism on social media, as well as concern among local people.
Police said Hridoy was allegedly involved in various crimes, including snatching and extortion.
Locals said photographs of him holding a pistol had also circulated on social media after August 5, 2024, but no weapons were recovered and no action was taken against him at the time.
People of Pahartali Union alleged that Hridoy was involved in extortion and other criminal activities, often threatening people with firearms. They said he particularly targeted businesspeople for extortion and that many locals were afraid to speak openly against him.
Locals further alleged that he formed a criminal group in Pahartali after August 5, 2024, which became involved in extortion and other offences across parts of Bagoan and Pahartali unions.
According to local sources, Hridoy’s family home is in Garibullah Para, while his in-laws live in Khanpara village of Pahartali. They said he had been arrested several times but was released on bail within days and allegedly returned to criminal activities.
Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam said police had taken note of the video and were examining its authenticity and details.
“The person in the video has been preliminarily identified as Hridoy alias Bullet, son of Badsha. He was arrested before and served time in jail,” he said.
Since August 5, 2024, Raozan has witnessed repeated violence over local dominance, extortion and control of businesses. As many as 22 people have been killed in the upazila during this period, according to available information.
Most of the victims were reportedly BNP and its affiliated organisations’ leaders and activists, local sources said. Police records indicate that the killings were linked to disputes over territorial control, the soil and sand trade, kidnapping operations and the sharing of extortion proceeds.
