Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) will have its 5th edition next weekend. The festival will be held February 15-16 on the permanent campus of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), located at Ramchandrapur, Mohammadpur.
DIMFF is a unique film-making competition, where the films have to be made on a smartphone. The festival is open to all. This year, 96 films from 34 countries will participate in three categories: Competition, One-Minute Film and Screening.
The jury members for DIMFF’s 5th edition are film-makers Proshoon Rahmaan, professional cinematographer Rashed Zaman, and writer and film critique Bidhan Rebeiro.
Proshoon Rahmaan began his film-making career with the film “Sutopar Thikana.” Proshoon’s alma mater is Dhaka University, and he studied several aspects of film-making from both Bangladesh and abroad. Another feature film directed by Proshoon is “Jonmobhumee.” Proshoon’s next feature film to be released is “Dhaka Dream.” He is also a popular writer.
Rashed Zaman actually started his career as an architect before becoming a professional cinematographer. He studied cinematography from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). His prominent work is “Aynabaji.” He received Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Cinematography in 2016.
DIMFF’s respected jury Bidhan Rebeiro is a film critique and writer. He studied Mass Communication and Journalism in Dhaka University. His most notable books are “Cholocchitro Path Sohayika,” “Cholocchitra Bichar,” “Bollywood Bahas,” and “Bibidho Ovab: Leonardo Lalon Laca.” His first essay on film, titled “Bangladesher Cholocchitro,” was published in Kolkata.
Under the three categories mentioned, 38 films have been finally selected for this year’s DIMFF. Ten films out of 28 submitted in the Competition category, two out of three films in One-Minute Film, and 26 films out of 65 in Screening make up the final list.
The best film-makers from the Competition category will receive “CinemaScope Best Film” award, and One-Minute Film category winners will win “ULAB Young Film-maker” award. All the selected film-makers will receive certificates and gifts.
