Director Proshoon Rahmaan dropped the first look at his upcoming tribute film “Dear Satyajit,” starring notable theatre and television actor Ahmed Rubel in the lead role. This marks the first collaboration between Rahmaan and Rubel.

Under the banner of Imation Creator, the film is slated to be released to mark the birth centenary of the master filmmaker Satyajit Ray, who was born in Kolkata to Sukumar and Suprabha Ray on May 2, 1921.

The tribute film will revolve around three filmmakers from three different generations whose crafts and lives have been deeply influenced by Ray’s filmography.

Rubel has been cast to play an elderly filmmaker named Asif Mahmud, who is discovered by a young aspiring filmmaker named Aparajita, played by Moutushi Biswas; and they both develop an inseparable connection to Satyajit Ray’s works.

“Dear Satyjait” is being filmed in Dhaka, Kishoreganj, Manikganj and Kapasia. The director is hopeful to wrap up the production soon and release the film on May 2, 2022.

Proshoon Rahmaan is best known for directing feature films “Sutopa'r Thikana,” “Jonmobhumi” and “Dhaka Dream.” His documentary “Nigrohokal,” based on the persecution of the Rohingya, has received widespread critical acclaim.

Rahman’s third feature “Dhaka Dream,” starring Fazlur Rahman Babu, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Monira Mithu, Abdullah Rana, Jayita Mahalanobish and Manoj Kumar among others, hit the theatres on October 22.
