Patuakhali 1,320MW thermal power plant begins trial operation

110MW of electricity produced by the plant is being supplied to the national grid

The Patuakhali 1,320 megawatt thermal power plant has started generating electricity on a trial basis.

The confirmation came on Sunday afternoon, from the supervising engineer of the plant, Ashraf Uddin.

Earlier, at around 12:30am, the authorities began the electricity generation process from the first unit (660MW).

Currently, 110MW of electricity produced by the plant is being supplied to the national grid.

Officials and employees of the power plant said they are excited to provide electricity after overcoming various challenges.

Engineer Ashraf Uddin said: "Gradually, the full 660MW from the first unit will be supplied to the national grid. Work is progressing rapidly to start production from the second unit (660MW in March." 

The construction of this power plant began on August 31, 2019, with joint investment by China’s state-owned Norinco International Power Company Limited and Bangladesh's state-owned Rural Power Company Limited (RPCL).

The plant is located on 915 acres of land in Londa village of Dhankhali union, Patuakhali, with a construction cost of Tk27,000 crore.
