Jalalabad Gas T&D Systems Limited (JGTDSL) is set to install prepaid gas metres next month across Sylhet city to bring the gas distribution and customer service of the divisional city under one system.
Project Director Liton Nandi said on Wednesday that the metres shipped from China have already reached Chittagong port and once they arrive in Sylhet, they will begin installing them either at the end of March or in the first week of April.
He disclosed this information at a public hearing at Gas Bhaban in the city's Mendibag area.
Project Director Liton Nandi said Sylhet city currently has 100,000 residential gas stoves. Therefore, they initially planned to install 50,000 metres and a survey was completed in this regard.
Stating that the remaining 150,000 customers of the Sylhet division will also come under the prepaid metre, he said the main objective is to prevent the misuse of gas.
He hoped that the installation of the metres will be complete by December 31, 2023.

In a virtual speech, Petrobangla's Director (Administration) Altaf Hossain, said their main goal is to prevent corruption through transparency and accountability.
“Through this, a bridge is created between the service receiver and service provider,” he said.
He advised the officials and employees to work tirelessly to implement the SDGs by 2030 and build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
Nine industrial class, one commercial class, six CNG class and four residential class customers spoke during the session.
Jalalabad Gas T&D Systems Limited (JGTDSL) and The Consortium of Zenner, Metering Technology (Sanghai) and Hexing Electrical Company, China signed an agreement in this regard on September 25, 2002.
