President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived in Sylhet on Tuesday for his first visit to the city since assuming office.
He arrived at Sylhet Osmani International Airport by air at 11:27am.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir; Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Choudhury; Sylhet District BNP President and Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury; General Secretary and MP Emran Ahmed Chowdhury; Sylhet Metropolitan BNP President Nasim Hossain and General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury; Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun; and other political leaders and senior administrative officials welcomed him at the airport.
Tight security measures were put in place around the airport for the president’s visit. He then left for Sylhet Circuit House in a motorcade.
According to his itinerary, the president was scheduled to receive a guard of honour at the Circuit House at 11:50am before leaving for the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) at 12:20pm.
He was also scheduled to visit the shrine of Hazrat Shahparan (RA) before returning to the Circuit House for a brief rest.
In the afternoon, the president was scheduled to attend a civic reception organised by Sylhet City Corporation before returning to the Circuit House.
He is scheduled to leave Sylhet Osmani International Airport for Dhaka in the evening and reach Bangabhaban around 9:30pm.
The administration has made extensive preparations for the president’s visit to Sylhet.
