Industries, Commerce, Jute and Textiles Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir on Tuesday said investment in education, research, and innovation is essential to building a developed Bangladesh.
“Countries that have achieved significant development invested in education, research and innovation. Such investment not only creates skilled human resources but also lays a strong foundation for overall national development,” he said while addressing a reception for the students who achieved GPA-5 in the SSC and equivalent examinations this year.
At the event organized by Sylhet City Corporation and Sadar Upazila Administration at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, the minister also said Bangladesh has many talented freelancers who earn $50,000-$60,000 a month.
“We want to establish an artificial intelligence training centre in Sylhet so talented students can develop and utilise their potential. They can contribute to their own advancement as well as the country’s progress in science, technology and knowledge,” he said.
He stressed the need to create opportunities for students to develop their skills and prepare for emerging possibilities, saying students should devote their time and energy to education and personal development.
Chaired by Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, the event was also addressed by Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qayum Chowdhury, SUST Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Khairul Islam, Sylhet City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rezai Rafin Sarker, DSHE Sylhet regional director Prof Dr Didar Chowdhury, Sylhet Cadet College Principal A F M Mortahin Billah and Sylhet Sadar UNO Khoshnur Rubaiyat.
A total of 1,677 students from institutions under Sylhet City Corporation and Sylhet Sadar upazila achieved GPA-5 in the SSC and equivalent examinations this year. The guests later handed over crests to them.
